Pratt County Sheriff Vernon Chinn has appointed Buford Johnson as Undersheriff.
Buford has 30 years of experience with the office of Sheriff, all of which was with Shawnee County, Kansas. Johnson retired from Shawnee County in March of 2009. During his thirty years with that office Buford served as a patrol deputy/investigator, 25 years investigator for the major case squad, investigating primarily homicides and violent crime, 16 years as a sergeant, and 10 years with the SWAT team. Buford is also currently certified as an Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate. He was also the longest serving member of the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard with 29 years of service. Following his retirement Buford returned to the family farm in northeast Pratt County. He is also a private pilot.
Buford Johnson was born and raised in Pratt County, the son of Roy and Opal Johnson. He graduated from Pratt High School, Pratt Community College, and Washburn University, with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice.
I am very proud to be able to have Buford join the current team at the Pratt County Sheriff’s office and he brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience.
